"I will behave wisely.... (101:2)

"I will set no wicked thing before my eyes... (101:3)

"I will behave wisely...."
Satan has traps and pitfalls for those of us who desire to follow the paths of the Kingdom of God. Traps to get caught in and pitfalls to fall into. God has designed ways for us to dodge the devices of Satan, ways to avoid Satan's snares. We must seek God's wisdom for our behavior. Many times we may think certain behavior is acceptable, but is it wise, according to the wisdom of the Lord, which He gives so freely to us? We must be committed to His wisdom and to personal integrity in our lives. I just want to encourage you to "behave wisely" and to seek God's wisdom on how to do so. Part of that divine wisdom includes the following statement which is found in the next verse.

"I will set no wicked thing before my eyes..."
Commitment to personal integrity is essential for God's blessings to come into our lives. In fact it leads to an expectation of blessing. How much wickedness do we place in front of our eyes and place within our ears without much of a second thought? When we watch television programs or movies which are at best questionable in their moral judgments, when we allow ourselves to view things that are outright compromise of biblical principles, when we lust after people or things, we are setting wickedness before our eyes. Through listening to most modern non-Christian music, we are placing wickedness in our ears.

Serious maturing Christians should be very reluctant to view most of what we see on television which is considered "family entertainment", and most of today's popular movies. It is easy to think "it's just entertainment and will not effect me in any way". But the truth is that it does effect you in many subtle ways.  Looking at junk, outright immoral things, or just time-wasters, have no lasting value; and in fact can be very damaging to your spirit, soul, and body. It is very unwise to flood your God-given five physical senses with wickedness. Flood them with God's Word as much as possible.

Allowing wicked or worthless things to remain before our eyes (or wicked or useless words to enter our ears) creates fanticies and imaginations that are contrary to Kingdom living and counter-productive to us in every way. When we do this on a regular basis, it weakens us spiritually, making it easier to give in to temptations and to backslide. It is likely to cause you to compromise in many areas of your life and lead to other unwise behavior. As ambassadors of God's Kingdom, we must represent Him with integrity and a godly character.

Obviously, we want God to keep His eyes on us, to bless us, to guide us, and to protect us. Therefore, we must be faithful to follow His principles. When we are unfaithful to Him, our confidence in His faithfulness toward us is shaken and our faith is weakened. We are to be light in the midst of this world of darkness. Yes, we must associate with worldly sinners, but make sure you are influencing them more then they are influencing you. Have you brought any of your worldly friends to church lately? Have they seen you reading your Bible or praying in a public place? What are you doing to bring your lost friends to Christ? You don't win them by watching and listening to the same trash as they watch and listen to. You are more likely to win them by setting a higher standard of conduct and behavior. Once again, for your own spiritual, physical, and mentle health, "behave wisely" and don't set any wicked thing before your eyes or within your ears.
