What is Ministry Practicum?
NOTE: Ministry Practicum credit will only be granted after a student has completed 9 ACTS courses. Opportunities for Ministry Practicum are available at Abiding Life Church.
-
A volunteer minister of helps (e.g., as a greeter, usher, Sunday school assistant, youth worker, nursery attendant, etc.), or;
- A paid staff member
Freshman, sophomores, and juniors are required to serve a minimum of 72 hours during each of their 9-course programs of study. Ministry practicum hours must be valid volunteer work sanctioned by the student's local church providing training for the student and helping that church. Functioning in a paid ministerial capacity at that local church also qualifies. This service, verified by a church leader, earns the student 3 credit-hours. It does not include student ministry independent of a local church.
Seniors must fulfill their ministry practicum requirement in a function related to their major. These hours can be fulfilled either as volunteer work or as paid employment.
Master's level students are required to serve in their local church and/or community for a minimum of 176 hours during their program of study and that service must be related to their major. These hours can be fulfilled either as volunteer work or as paid employment.
Students must properly document their ministry practicum hours throughout the school year on a ACTS University Ministry Practicum Activity Log in order to receive the school credit.
